At the southeast side of Elafonisos and near Leuki area there is the most known beach of Elafonisos called Simos. Between two small peninsulas, Fragko and Sarakiniko, with view towards Kythera ,unique emerald waters and golden sand the famous Simos beach promises unforgetable relaxation moments to their visitors. The small bay, bay of Fragkos, is protected by the waves and the shallow waters ensure easy and safe access to the sea and easy swimming. The beach scenery is complemented by the large sand dunes and the unique Kedros forest which extends up to the near beach of Sarakiniko (Megali Paralia).
The beach seems to have taken its name from the Kalymnian sponge diver, Simos, who drowned in the area near the Fragko. Its beauty is responsible for the recognition of the island of Elafonisos. Simos, which has been a destination for free camping, today has all the necessary infrastructure to satisfy all visitors. It is located approximately 4.5 km from the Elafonisos village with access by car on asphalt road. In summertime there are also small boat routes from the old port of Elafonisos.
