The beach of Sarakiniko also known as Megali Paralia(Great Beach), is located on the southeast side of Elafonisos, next to Simos beach. With unique turquoise waters and golden sand, it is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The beach, like Simos, is surrounded by large sand dunes and rare Kedros trees making the landscape unique. Its length is about one kilometer and its shallow waters are offered for water sports. On the west side is the large and organized Elafonisos camping.
The beach owes its name to the Saracens, pirates and corsairs, who used the beach bay as a base in their attempt to pillage the passing ships of Elafonisos and Kythira. It is located about 4 km from the Elafonisos village and access to it is done from the west side on asphalt road.
