Enviroment

Elafonisos has a unique geographical location at the southern end of Parnon and between the seas. This fact has created an enviroment with unique conditions for the development of flora and fauna. The enviroment of Elafonisos its so intense that rarely can be found similar in another region. Thus its natural beauty and the uniqueness of its environment led to its designation as a Site of Community Importance and its inclusion in the protected ecosystems NATURA 2000 with code GR2540002. This aims for the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora.

Special mention should be made of the rare species of Juniperus macrocarpa (Kedros). They can found in bushy and tree-like form in various parts of the island, such as Lefki, Simos, but also in the area between Elafonisos village and the beach of Panagia.
